Review: Return To Us by Christy Pastore

I married the man of every woman’s dreams.
My husband is the leading man in their filthy fantasies. I know because they’ve told me.
Matthew Barber is Tinsel Town’s most sought-after movie star and I’m the girl next door. Tinley Atkinson, the former child star with an Ivy League education, and the daughter of a deceased Broadway legend.
Three short years later, it’s all crashing down.
We were the quintessential celebrity couple—Mattley, Hollywood’s Heartthrob and America’s Sweetheart.
We fell in love, and the whole world watched as our fairytale romance unfolded between the pages of glossy magazine spreads and candid moments splashed online.
The public is fascinated with the rumors swirling around us—I’m the jilted wife and he’s the no-good cheater. I’m infertile and years of drug abuse is to blame. He wants kids and I would rather have a career.
He’s the love of my life.
What am I going to do about that?
Marriage is tough and it’s even tougher in Hollywood, I’m ready to fight . . .
For me.
For him.
For us.

This book was different from my normal romance reads since the main couple are married and established. I really liked the fact that we got to see what happens after the “happily ever after” so to speak. Tinley and Matthew have been married for awhile but they hit a bump in the road. I have to applaud Matthew for being brutally honest no matter how hard he ripped our hearts out. Yes, I’m talking about mine as well. ;)

As the story progressed we see the backstory and present. I really liked how the author developed the story and the characters and the changes throughout their marriage. I am not married but I could see myself in this situation and I loved how relatable these characters were and you couldn’t help but want them to resolve their issues. This is the second book by Christy Pastore that I have read and I really enjoy her writing and story telling.

Review: The Outcasts: The Blood Dagger: Volume 1 by Misty Hayes

The Outcasts: The Blood Dagger: Volume 1 by [Hayes, Misty]

Mystical relics.

Powerful vampires.
Strange allies.

It's hell being a teenager.

Larna Collins has never understood why her dad skipped out on her and her mother when she was twelve years old. Until then, he was a devoted and loving father.

But six years later, during a renovation of her childhood home, she unearths her father's journal from under a dusty floorboard. According to his final entry before he left, he had recently visited a small parish in England.

The entries draw her to this seemingly quaint village, which Larna discovers isn't as charming as its blood-craving inhabitants want her to believe, and she learns that she isn't the only one trying to track her father down.

Could this explain her father's disappearance? Or was placing her in the center of danger her dad's master plan all along?

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this story! I am VERY picky with my Paranormal reads and this was such a good story. This was my first time reading this author and I loved her writing and her description to detail was excellent! The secondary characters were excellent and I honestly felt like I was one of the gang. The pacing was good and I loved the character development as well. Larna went from being insecure to confident and I loved seeing her believe in herself as the story progressed. At times I questioned her decisions but she’s 18 so I had cut her some slack. One thing that I loved about this story was that the cast of characters were your regular awkward teens! It was so easy to fall in love with them and root for them to win!   I’m really curious to see what the future holds for Larna, Corinth and Alistair. The author left me hungry for more and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

New Release+Review: Love Broken by J.D. Hollyfield

Title: Love Broken
Author: JD Hollyfield
Genre: RomCom/Contemporary Romance
Release: February 26, 2018

My name is Katie Beller, but the world, as of late, knows me as Bailey Swan, the love guru behind my bestselling book.

Want the shortened version? Here it is:

Love was stupid.
A fake. A farce
Love was broken.

Women everywhere were eating up my advice and fighting back against fake love. My book started a relationship revolution. And I stood by my story.

Until I met Charlie Bates.

When I throw all my own rules and advice out the window after a week-long rendezvous, I start to wonder just how real my words were. Maybe love might be just a little more complicated than I thought.

Maybe I’m the one who’s love broken.

I just loved Love Broken.  Love Broken gives you a glimpse of the book signing world.  You have the die hard readers meeting their favorite authors.  And with some novels, they resonate deep with the readers.  They give you the bravery and courage to make changes in their life.  This is exactly what happened when Katie Beller wrote her best selling book.  But she should have taken out her own page and followed her own advice.  Love trumps everything.

Katie Beller (Bailey Swan) takes the indie world by storm.  With being new into this crazy book world, she was amazed by the readers who showed up to her first signing.   How people were effected by her words and changed their lives.   Meeting new readers, Katie also meet other participants and models.  One model caught her attention and he stood out of the crowd.  Charlie Bates was in NHL trying to break out from the minors.  With a modeling gig on the side, book signing kept him busy.  He was immediately drawn to Katie.  With her quick banter and whit, their chemistry and passion were sizzling up the room.   With book signings together, the secret glances and phone calls opened a door for a relationship.  But Katie should have taken her own advice to protect her heart.

I enjoyed everything with Love Broken.  Katie and Charlie characters were fun, uplifting and strong.   I became a fan of JD Hollyfield and will definitely be reading more of their work.

New Release+Review: The Big Bad Wolf by Jus Accardo

The Big Bad Wolf by [Accardo, Jus]

Kensey Deaton comes from an elite werewolf lineage, but just because her family is royalty, doesn't mean she'll fall in line like some perfect little princess. She has plans and they don't include an arranged marriage!

Slade McAlister has his own family drama. His Alpha father happens to be the most reviled wolf on the eastern seaboard, and it's a stigma he can't escape. So when his neighbor Kensey--the girl of his dreams and his nightmares--proposes a solution to solve *both* of their problems, he sees an opportunity he can’t ignore.
Kensey and Slade aren't only from opposite sides of the tracks, they're from opposite sides of the war. But if they can sell their 'relationship', they might just make it out of this with their freedom.
You know, as long as all that fake PDA doesn't turn into more...

This was a cute shifter read by a new to me author. At first the cover threw me off as the main character doesn’t scream “big bad wolf” but nonetheless Slade did live up to his reputation in this story. Kennsey was a spitfire and I loved how she held her ground especially around all the alpha male wolves. This was my first time reading anything by this author and I enjoyed the story and will most definitely look forward to future books!

Review: The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater

The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives by [Slater, Dashka]

One teenager in a skirt.
One teenager with a lighter.
One moment that changes both of their lives forever.

If it weren’t for the 57 bus, Sasha and Richard never would have met. Both were high school students from Oakland, California, one of the most diverse cities in the country, but they inhabited different worlds. Sasha, a white teen, lived in the middle-class foothills and attended a small private school. Richard, a black teen, lived in the crime-plagued flatlands and attended a large public one. Each day, their paths overlapped for a mere eight minutes. But one afternoon on the bus ride home from school, a single reckless act left Sasha severely burned, and Richard charged with two hate crimes and facing life imprisonment.
The 57 Bus is Dashka Slater's true account of the case that garnered international attention and thrust both teenagers into the spotlight.

While I was at my local library book club this book was displayed as one of the top YA reads of 2017. The cover and description caught my attention so I decided to check the book out. Needless to say it was a good decision! I finished this book in a few hours. I learned so much while reading this story and it was such an eye opening read. I had no idea this was a true story and I’m really happy with the outcome for both parties. I would have liked to read a follow up on both parties but I can only pray they are both doing well. I know some people can’t sympathize with Richard but I honestly don’t think he was a bad kid. He did something very stupid in my opinion but I don’t think he intentionally set out to hurt Sasha. I really liked how Sasha and their family conducted themselves given the set of circumstances. They were the true definition of forgiveness. I was very impressed with this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
